A seasoned professional, with a reputable self-owned business, was looking to get out of the day-to-day operations of his practice. He wanted to transition his time towards a more consultative phase of his career. To get started he quickly landed a speaking deal at a three-day convention in his hometown for $1,000. He did such a great job presenting that after his workshop ended a woman approached him and asked if she could book him for her association’s annual conference in Canada. They arranged to meet the next day and continue their conversation regarding logistics and fees.
Everything was looking great, but things took a downward turn the next day. When they met over coffee, the woman said she had “Googled” him to learn more about his business, his clients and his expertise. Unfortunately she found nothing online —because there was nothing to find.
Having no online presence took away his ability to leverage his fees and services. But even worse, he felt it stopped him from landing this fantastic speaking opportunity. He realized he hadn’t planned and planted a simple online strategy that would allow him to connect with people he met along his path that could help his new consultative business grow.
