There is an SEO company on every Internet corner, with many promising top search engine results. But not all SEO companies are created equal. Reputable SEOs have the results to back up their claims. Others? Not so much.
With the success of your website on the line, you’ll want to make sure you ask the right questions when picking your next SEO provider.
1. Are they ethical SEO practitioners? For years, some SEOs gamed the system by practicing what’s called Black hat SEO techniques – keyword stuffing, spammy content, poor link building practices and other unethical tactics meant to trick search engines and take advantage of shortcuts to quickly gain rank.
It worked — for some. But many of those techniques no longer work and are not reputable. Make sure the SEO practitioners you hire practice ethical or white hat SEO techniques that create a better user experience with great content.
Run far, far away from those who practice Black hat techniques. Your site could get severely penalized — or even taken offline — with Black hat techniques. It’s just not worth it in the long run to risk it.
2. Are there guarantees? If an SEO company promises to get you on top ranking in a short period of time, you should be very cautions. Top ranking depends on so many factors, among them on-page SEO, off-page SEO, keywords, density, etc. If an SEO company promises you unrealistic results too quickly, it’s a good sign that they won’t keep their promises and are just chasing a quick buck.
3. What’s their working style? Not every SEO company will be good fit for your company, so it’s important to compare your working styles to make sure it’s a match. Are they a hands-on company? Are they willing to have daily, weekly or monthly status meetings about your progress? Make sure you are both on the same page as far as communication and work styles are concerned.
